Objectives and tasks

What are producer associations, what do they do, how do they work?

Along with the developing world, a series of practices have been started in our country to register and support the farmer. Our country needs a producer who produces and sells what he produces at its value and is supported. Due to this need, the Producer Unions Law No. 5200 was enacted in 2004. The purpose of creating the organized producer is both to combine the productive forces and to accept a union representing the producer as the addressee. It is easy for the producer, who cannot announce his demands individually, to convey his demands to the relevant organization as a whole under the umbrella of the organization and find a solution.

As aquaculture growers, we all have the same problems and solutions. There are approximately 2200 fish farms in our country. If each producer tries to solve the problem on his own, it is not taken into account and loses a lot of time in terms of material and labor. Therefore, it is very important to gather forces and gather under the umbrella of an organization. It is definitely much more effective for the organization to convey the demands instead of the person in the applications to be made to the official authorities in problem resolution.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Turkiye also encourages the strengthening of producer organizations. An organization that has a strong and institutional structure and receives the support of all producers has a voice because it has the authority to represent itself in every condition and in every field. The Ministry is the decision maker in future plans. Organization with a strong institutional structure; It is aware of every issue that is beneficial to the producer and develops a common mind and consciousness by communicating this to the producer.

As it is known, there are many project announcements related to fisheries on the way to the EU. In order to benefit from these projects, it is required to be organized. In order to benefit from these projects in solving technical or organizational problems, it is necessary for the producer to be conscious, to own the problem and to combine his power with other producers. The number of aquaculture producers’ associations established with this awareness is currently 21. Establishment works continue in many provinces.

In this regard, everyone who produces fishery products has to act with common sense, to convey their voice to the necessary places through an institution that is taken seriously, and to accept the principle of taking strength from the union.

Our Central Union was established on January 26, 2009, based on the Agricultural Producer Unions Law No. 5200 adopted in 2004. There are 21 unions and more than 1000 companies that are members of these unions. This figure corresponds to more than half of the breeding enterprises in our country. In terms of production, the members of the Central Union make 80% of Turkey’s aquaculture production.
